voters decided to give him another four years in the white house. >> the president surpassed the 270 electoral votes which were needed for re-election. our brianne carter live outside the white house with reaction from the president, as well as from mitt romney. brianne, good morning. >> good morning to you. it was a big night for president barack obama. cheers erupted there in chicago and here in washington, d.c., as the numbers started to come in. it was virginia and ohio that really made it clear to the president's campaign that he would be back here at the white house for the next four years. now, during his victory speech, the president said he is more determined and more inspired to get back to work. he also talked a lot about working across the aisle more about partisanship happening during his next four years. now, as we know, this was a long, hard fought campaign and it was another long night as these election results came in. meanwhile, a much more somber tone in massachusetts as mitt romney learned the results as well. speaking to supporters he said

that he tried hard to be the man to lead this country for the next four years, but that voters decided to go in a different direction. but there were cheers here outside of the white house as hundreds started to gather as the numbers started coming in. those cheers were echoed there in chicago, the president talking about what will happen in his next term. >> we remain more than a collection of red space and blue space. we are and forever will be the united states of america. together, with your help and god's grace, we will continue our journey forward and remind the world just why it is that we live in the greatest nation on earth. thank you, america. god bless you. >> now, mitt romney also thanking his supporters. the president saying that he looks forward to sitting down with mitt romney in the coming weeks and talking about moving forward about the next four yours. now, one other note we have this morning is that we hear from democratic sources, the

>> we honestly and vigorously advocated our principles and offered a clear vision for the future. we saw to reinvigorate our country. >> the two former governors vied for the seat of retiring democratic senator jim webb. the millions of dollars spent on campaign ads paid off for supporters of three controversial measures on maryland's ballot. >> voters approved expanding gambling in the state, and john gonzalez joins us live at national harbor, a proposed site for a new casino. john? >> cynne, steve, $80 million spent in advertising for those for and against gambling here in the state of maryland. in the end the major measures really, you know took the lead early and never lost it. and we understand that two of them were very close. now, maryland voters of course, decided, and the majority chose question six and seven, even though opponents of same-sex marriage collected

nearly three times the signatures needed in a petition earlier this year to put this referendum on the ballot. six wins was a slight margin. the associated press reporting 52% took 48%. now, the vote means same-sex marriages can begin as early as january 1. >> it is a complete sea change where we have been losing these for years, we're finally seeing the tide turning and it makes us incredibly optimistic for the future. >> as for question seven well, the celebration ran late here at the national harbor, which included five works. maryland will get that new casino. all indications aimed toward an m.g.m. grand resort here in prince george's county opening up in 2016. now, the addition of table games have been added statewide. that can start as early as next year. now, the dream act which was question four on the maryland ballot yesterday, well that one a little -- that won a

little more convincingly. it took the lead early and next lost t. the question for the dream art, which means children of undocumented workers can now pay in-state few sandigs go to college. by popular vote, maryland becomes the first state in the country to approve the dream act. reporting live at the national harbor this morning, john gonzalez abc 7 news. >> john, thanks so much. it's 5:09 right now. to want get back over to jummy at the live desk this morning, following a fire in prince george's county. >> cynne and steve twee have video just in to the abc 7 newsroom of that fire from the fairmont heights section of prince george's county. this fire happened in that two-story home you see there. this is located along the 5300 block of sheriff road. what we do know is that two men were taken from the home. one had to be medevacced for smoke inhalation, and the other was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. we don't know if anyone else was in the home or if anyone else was injured or how this

year, and then decided to call in 7 on your side. see what happened when we got the case, tonight at 5:00. >> all right, leon, thanks so much. it's 5:17 now. an elderly man who nearly died while voting in suburban detroit doing all right this morning. he was at a government office on monday filling out his absentee ballot when his heart stopped beating. he also stopped breathing there. a nurse who had also gone there to vote was able to revive him. when the man awoke the first question he asked -- did i vote? it turns out he had filled out his ballot. he then went to the hospital for more treatment. a pregnant illinois woman did not let labor pains stop her from voting in the first presidential election. >> elections officials say her water had broken and her contractions were about five minutes apart when she stopped to vote on her way to the hospital. she said she breathed through her contractions while she voted. she then drove herself to the hospital -- >> what! >> after casting her ballot. that's how you get it done. >> that is amazing. >> wow.

all right, you're going to need a little commitment this morning to get through. it's cold out there, especially for people who walk or ride their bicycles. >> i'm getting some complaints this morning that we're not ready. we're talking snowflakes, the first flakes of the season, but no accumulation is really expected here. you head up into baltimore, maybe a little bit, especially on the grassy areas, philadelphia for sure getting in with maybe three to five inches. we're dealing with a little bit of light rain this morning, mostly along the eastern shore and the delmarva. calvert and st. mary's county getting a couple of sprinkles. don't be surprised if there's a snowflake or two mixed in. but i think the better shot is going to happen late this afternoon or early this evening, continuing into tonight. so there's the winter weather advisory in effect for northeastern maryland. it does not include washington, d.c., or our metro area. they could see one to three inches in the grassy area. but for the most part, the

ground temperatures are pretty warm. 41 degrees at reagan national. 37 at dulles. 37 in manassas. 37 in culpeper. 34 in winchester. 35 degrees in martinsburg. here's your satellite and radar picture, and there you can see our coastal system still kind of not quite real strong, at least not in terms of the wind. the brunt of this thing is going to move up towards the jersey shore and on up into new england. that's where the strong winds are going to be, the heavier rain and more snow into the sbrur. this is the futurecast one computer model really shows that, for the most part, this is i-95 and eastward type of a system. we're going to get off pretty easy overall. you're going to feel the winds picking up, gusting 25, 30 miles per hour. it's going to be out of here pretty quickly by tomorrow. great-looking weekend ahead. so today is going to be raw and cool, cloudy and breezy with light rain and snow, especially to the east. temperatures in the upper 30's to lower 40's. very little change in our temperature today. cloudy with light rain, probably changing over to a

for both sides as well, as they watched the numbers come in. it turned out to be a big night for president barack obama. we understand that as these numbers started to come in, it was an electric mood there in chicago, as cheers and chants erupted there as they learned that president obama would be back here for another four years. now, he made more than 300 electoral votes more than that 270 needed to win the presidency again. and talking about those battleground states, that is what people were focused on last night, the early returns. they were pretty much as expected, and then it came down to those key states. we're talking about florida, ohio and virginia, and we know now that the president nearly sweeping those battleground states enough to make him victorious last night. now, mitt romney, it was a much different mood there in massachusetts at his party. we understand a much more somber mood as well. mitt romney had a gracious concession speech and went on to congratulate the president, saying that he had called him

manhattan home for a bus stop. authorities say convicted pedophile jose ramos was considered the prime suspect. a new suspect was charged earlier this year. >> penn state's former president set to be arraigned today on charges he tried to cover up the child sex abuse scandal. graham spanier was charged with perjury, endangering the welfare of children. pressures say he conspired to conceal complaints against jerry sandusky. sandusky, of course, serving a long prison sentence after being convicted in june. >> the man behind the anti-muslim film the obama administration blamed for the attacks in benghazi is expected in court today. the hearing will determine whether the california resident violated his probation in a bank fraud case. he denied eight alleged probation violations, including the use of aliases and lying about his role in the movie. he's now being held without bail. when your child was born may determine how likely they are to succeed as a future c.e.o.

>> and the bailout of the auto industry helps get president obama re-elected. linda bell joins us now from bloomberg in new york to explain. linda, good morning. >> hello to you, steve and cynne. you're exactly right, president obama won the key swing states of michigan and ohio as support for the auto bailouts helped bring him to victory. 56% of americans considered the bailout of chrysler and g.m. good for the u.s. economy, and this comes as ford and g.m. just posted a combined $12 billion in pretax income and profit this year through september for the north american operations. and speaking of cars, new estimates from car fax indicate the number of vehicles flooded by sandy may exceed the number of cars destroyed by hurricane katrina. if this is the case, sandy would be the single largest disaster to ever impact the country's vehicles. it's important to note, if you're ever in the market for a used car in the near future, check for signs of water damage. and finally, if you aspire for your baby to be a leader one day like president obama, it

starting to nudge in, going to bring us light rain, and yes, probably the first snowflakes of the season as well. but don't get too excited. this is not a big winter storm, very little to no accumulation can be expected. cloudy start this morning, and we're definitely on the cool side. 41 at reagan national. we've got 37 in manassas. 37 in culpeper this morning. gaithersburg at 36. 33 in hagerstown. and it's 38 at b.w.i. speaking of baltimore, one to three inches possible there today. it's really the northeastern part of maryland that's going to get hit with potentially accumulating snow. i think the roadways are going to be fine. the grassy areas are going to get a little bit. even north and east of there, they'll see heavier amounts. philadelphia could be pushing three to five inches or so. here's the moisture already trying to sneak its way in across the eastern shore and into the delmarva. that is going to move in here later on this morning, but i think it's all going to stay light rain until maybe this evening. we'll start to see the

transition. there you can see the storm system itself still kind of ramping up right now. i do think the northeastern part of the country is going to get hit much, much harder than we are. new york city on up towards new england, they'll see heavier showers go along with it. a little concerned about coastal flooding for those folks from sandy. this is the computer model forecast. this is just one. keep in mind as i step through the future, just keep in mind i think the timing is very good. however, i do think that some of that snow pulling in on this forecast might spread a little further west than what's really going to happen. so this will stick around into early tomorrow morning start to clear on out, and we'll see some sunshine then in our seven-day forecast. today looking for cloudy skies, breezy conditions, light rain and snow, especially east. temperatures pretty steady, upper 30's to low 40's. for tonight, light rain, maybe the changeover overall, but again, not amounting to much. it's going to get so much better once we get through

today. i'd like to connect with you facebook twitter, send me your photos. if you see any snow snakes, send them to me. adam caskey, we all know he loves the snow and couldn't help himself but get out in storm chaser 7 this morning on snowflake watch. hey, adam. >> yeah, not expecting any flakes this morning, but later on today, for the drive home that's when i think people will run into a few snowflakes, wet snowflakes. shouldn't really cause any problems, but on the grassy surfaces, that's where i think we'll have the minor accumulation. we're down here on the national mall. folks jogging early this morning. there is a bit of a breeze that's starting to pick up, as expected from this coastal storm system that's developing and continuing to intensify. we're going to push in here on the flags that wrap around the washington monument and surround it. notice they are actually whipping a little bit. we do have winds at about 10 miles per hour. the wind will increase and pick up throughout the day today, blustery, cold day, high temperatures only in the lower 40's.

then we have the precipitation to talk about, a little bit of light rain this morning. i think we'll see some changeover to light snow later in the afternoon and especially the evening hours tonight, but not much in terms of overall precipitation falling in general. so even what we do see in terms of snow will be minor. the accumulations will be confined to just a few grassy patches here and there. but on the roadways, they should just be wet later on today for the evening commute. this looks like a very low-impact situation for the metro area. my snow excitement factor, on a scale of one to 10, a one. a simple one with this system. but as jacqui mentioned, combrufmentes the next couple of days. we'll warm up and see a lot of sun. back to jamee with the commute. how we rolling? >> not so bad around the beltway. maryland, 95 northbound, we had a crash near b.w.i. airport, it's cleared to the shoulder, and i'm not seeing any delays. now, i do want to take you live to springfield, north on 95 out of newington. however, on the map, we are
